6 Week Online Program for Anxiety and Panic Attacks
We at Counselling Care Dublin are delighted to announce that a new Online Program for Anxiety launched in December 2013.
Emma Murphy, Founder of Sandyford Wellness Centre and now CEO and Clinical Director of the Turning Institute, has been leading the innovation of therapeutically valid, online programs here in Ireland. The program focus was initially in her area of expertise - Bulimia and Binge Eating Disorder - and is now available on www.feelingfocused.com.
However, Anxiety has become another very significant issue for Irish adults, and in response to the increase in demand for counselling and our 8 week program for Anxiety, The Turning Institute turned its attention to this important area of mental health.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Anxiety, a Mindfulness Based Approach
This six week program is based on ACT - or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. ACT is now an established and accepted model of therapy for anxiety, depression and a range of other issues, and at the recent National Eating Disorders Association of USA conference in Washington, the Anxiety and Depression Association of America gave a compelling presentation on the co-morbidity of anxiety and eating disorders (i.e. both occurring together in the one person), and one of their recommended treatments was ACT based counselling. Based on Mindfulness, ACT is a compassionate and positive model which significantly reduces symptomology and distress caused by anxiety and other issues.
Our Simulated Anxiety Group features six members, one of each struggling with the following:
Robert struggles with Panic Attacks, and is now using alcohol as a self soothing tactic, now becoming an issue in itself; Ann struggles with Generalised Anxiety Disorder, she is on medication and under supervision of a Psychiatrist; Sandra has Social Phobia and PTSD, fear of trusting others and forming relationships after significant bereavements in her life; James struggles with OCD - compulsive behaviours, specifically, fear of contamination; Laura struggles with Post Natal Anxiety - specifically, fear of harming her baby and OCD - obsessive thoughts of harm; Dave struggles with a Loss of confidence/self esteem through redundancy, bordering on depression.
Online Tools and Strategies to Reduce Symptoms of Anxiety Our program is psycho-educational, teaching you the tools and strategies you need to calm yourself and react differently to anxiety triggers in your life. Using a combination of Therapist Presentation, downloadable exercises and MP3's, and our Simulated Therapy Group outlined above who work through their own challenges with help from the Therapist, our online self-help program can really help you tackle your anxiety symptoms, and begin to move on to an anxiety free future.
