Relationship Counselling & Marriage Counselling

Being part of a committed adult intimate relationship is one of the most important choices anyone can make. Choosing to spend your life, or a significant part of your life, with one other person is a significant decision, and can bring great joy and satisfaction to our lives. It may also be the cornerstone of a family with children, so it is really important to have a solid foundation to work from.
A long term relationship with a significant other is a journey, with all the joys and pitfalls that travelling together through new and different experiences can bring. With the stresses and strains of modern living, where there are demands on our time, our energy, our bank accounts and our health, it is sometimes easy to lose sight of each other and begin to grow apart, or live separate lives.
Taking the time to communicate and stay in touch with each other on a deeper level is really important. Relationships require work at times in order to continue functioning successfully. When you’ve lost sight of each other, or have a serious issue causing tension and conflict, it may help for you both to talk things through with an independent, objective counsellor who can help you both unpick the problems and facilitate you finding solutions that work for you as a couple, and as individuals.
As well as the more common relationship issues such as communication, sexual relations and infidelity, some of the current social patterns are significant contributors to relationship problems, including:
Time Pressures – commuting, shift work, juggling of work and family
Financial Pressures – job losses, childcare and child rearing, market forces
Family Issues – infertility, parenting, extended family issues
Taking the time to stand back and consider where you are at, what you are trying to achieve, and how best to manage these demands without compromising your relationship, can be very beneficial and help you feel empowered and in control of your life once more.
